Managing operational risk requires more than strong technical knowledge; it requires the ability to influence, lead and build trusted relationships across a business. In this role, you'll oversee the operational risk framework, support strategic decision-making and ensure robust governance remains embedded throughout the organisation. Location
Duties for this role include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the Operational Risk team, providing leadership, coaching and ongoing professional development.
- Oversee the implementation and continuous development of the operational risk management framework.
- Identify, assess, monitor and report operational risks across the business.
- Maintain and develop the Operational Risk Register, Risk & Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) framework and related risk management processes.
- Oversee operational risk incidents, root cause analysis, issue management and remediation activities.
- Develop and present operational risk reports, key risk indicators and governance information to senior management and Board committees.
- Support the development of risk appetite frameworks and monitor performance against agreed risk thresholds.
- Provide operational risk guidance for business projects, transformation initiatives and change programmes.
- Lead annual operational risk assessments, policy attestations and business continuity reviews.
- Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, regulators, Internal Audit and other control functions.
- Promote a positive risk culture through training, coaching and awareness initiatives.
- Drive continuous improvement across governance, controls, reporting and operational risk processes.
Skills / Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have significant experience in operational risk within a regulated financial services environment, together with a strong understanding of risk management frameworks, governance and operational controls. Previous leadership experience is essential, along with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels and lead a high-performing team. You'll possess excellent analytical, organisational and communication skills, with experience in risk reporting, risk assessments, business continuity, incident management and regulatory engagement. Strong commercial judgement, a proactive approach to continuous improvement and the ability to embed a positive risk culture across an organisation will be key to success in this role. Experience with risk management systems and relevant professional risk qualifications would be advantageous.
