Join a second-line Risk team on a 6-month fixed-term contract, taking a lead role in strengthening operational risk management and governance. You'll provide independent challenge, oversee risk and control assessments and deliver meaningful insight to senior management and Board-level forums. It's a varied senior position requiring both technical expertise and commercial judgement.

Duties for this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead the development and enhancement of the Operational Risk Framework.
  • Provide independent second-line oversight, challenge and guidance to the business.
  • Oversee the identification, assessment and monitoring of material and emerging operational risks.
  • Review and challenge Risk and Control Self-Assessments and remediation plans.
  • Monitor operational risk against agreed appetite and tolerance levels.
  • Provide risk oversight across transformation, technology, outsourcing and new product initiatives.
  • Support operational resilience and business continuity risk management.
  • Oversee operational risk events, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Produce high-quality risk reporting and management information for senior management and Boards.
  • Monitor Key Risk Indicators and identify emerging risk trends.
  • Oversee the effective use and integrity of the GRC system.
  • Track audit findings, control deficiencies and remediation actions through to completion.
  • Promote risk awareness and deliver relevant training across the business. 

Skills / Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have significant experience within Operational Risk, Internal or External Audit, Risk Management or a related control function, gained within banking, wealth management or wider financial services. You'll have proven experience developing and enhancing operational risk frameworks, challenging risk and control assessments and supporting governance, audit and regulatory activity. Strong knowledge of operational risk methodologies, KRIs, incident management, risk reporting and GRC systems is important, alongside the credibility to influence and constructively challenge senior management and Board-level stakeholders. Experience of operational resilience, outsourcing, third-party risk, information security or major transformation programmes would be advantageous, as would a relevant qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIA, CISA, IRM or ICA.
