For an accountant who enjoys balancing technical responsibilities with people management, this opportunity offers excellent breadth and visibility. You'll oversee key accounting activities while supporting the development and performance of a team of approximately eight colleagues.

Duties for this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing financial accounting activities across billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger and cashbook functions.
  • Maintaining the integrity of the general ledger and supporting reconciliations.
  • Assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts and annual financial statements.
  • Managing month-end and year-end accounting processes.
  • Preparing and reviewing accounting entries, accruals, depreciation and journals.
  • Supporting internal and external audit processes and responding to auditor enquiries.
  • Monitoring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements and efficiency initiatives.
  • Producing ad hoc financial reports and analysis where required.
  • Leading, mentoring and supporting a finance team of approximately eight individuals.
  • Supporting the development and training of junior finance team members.

Skills / Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be part-qualified or fully qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) and possess strong commercial accounting experience gained within an operational business environment. Candidates coming directly from practice without broader commercial exposure are unlikely to be suitable. Experience preparing accounts from trial balance through to audited financial statements is essential, alongside strong technical accounting knowledge and excellent attention to detail. Previous people management experience would be highly advantageous, although candidates who can clearly demonstrate leadership capability and readiness to manage a team will also be considered. Strong communication skills, commercial awareness and the ability to drive continuous improvement are key requirements for the role.
