This is a key leadership position responsible for ensuring robust financial management and compliance within a regulated legal and fiduciary environment. The successful candidate will drive financial performance, maintain regulatory standards and support strategic growth.
Location
Duties for this role include, but are not limited to:
- Managing day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, receivable, invoicing and reconciliations.
- Maintaining the general ledger and preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
- Overseeing cash flow management and ensuring sufficient liquidity for firm operations.
- Monitoring budgets, financial performance and expense controls against targets.
- Preparing financial reports for partners to support strategic decision-making.
- Ensuring strict compliance with applicable Professional Accounts Rules.
- Managing and reconciling client accounts, maintaining appropriate segregation of client funds.
- Preparing documentation for regulatory audits and liaising with external auditors.
- Ensuring timely submission of tax filings and statutory obligations.
- Overseeing billing processes, time recording, credit control and revenue management.
- Working with fee earners to improve billing efficiency and reduce delays.
- Managing payroll, pension contributions and staff expenses.
- Maintaining accounting and legal practice systems, ensuring data security and process efficiency.
- Providing forecasts, budgeting support and scenario planning.
- Advising on pricing strategies, cost control and operational improvements.
Skills / Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in accounting within a legal or professional services environment and demonstrate thorough understanding of legal accounting principles and client account rules. An accounting qualification such as AAT, ACCA or CIMA is preferred. They will have 3-5 years' relevant accounting experience at senior level, strong analytical and communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. High attention to detail, commercial awareness and confidence advising partners are essential for success in this role.
