Stepping into the role of Senior Infrastructure Engineer means taking on a key position at the centre of cloud technology delivery. This is a chance to combine deep technical expertise with hands-on project work, guiding complex infrastructure solutions from design through to implementation and ongoing support. It's a role for someone who enjoys working with the latest technologies while shaping reliable services for a diverse client base.

Duties for this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Designing, managing, and supporting virtualisation platforms (e.g. VMware vCloud, vCenter, vSphere, or alternatives), Azure Hub, storage, and associated technologies.
  • Supporting operating systems such as Linux, Windows, and SQL, alongside network and security devices.
  • Administering software-defined and physical networking (e.g. NSX-T or alternatives), firewalls, and security solutions.
  • Leading root cause analysis and resolution of complex technical issues.
  • Providing consultancy on infrastructure technologies, including onboarding of cloud services.
  • Drafting system documentation and procedures for new technologies.
  • Raising and managing third-party vendor support cases.
  • Contributing to service improvement initiatives and future cloud strategies.
  • Mentoring junior team members and sharing specialist knowledge.
  • Liaising with customers and prospects regarding design, migration, and backup/DR strategies.
  • Supporting proposals and statements of work for commercial teams.
  • Participating in the on-call rota to support all cloud services.

Skills / Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years' experience in a senior systems administration role, ideally within a service provider environment. They will hold professional-level qualifications such as VCP, MCSE, or CCNP (or equivalent), with expertise across infrastructure, virtualisation, networking, storage, and security devices. They will demonstrate strong problem-solving ability, excellent communication skills, and proven experience in managing customer relationships. A proactive and organised approach, combined with a passion for technology and continuous learning, will be key. Knowledge of ITIL, ISO27001, and PCI-DSS would be advantageous.
