Leapfrog Vs Situations

The evening saw what could be con­sid­ered as the most com­pet­i­tive and high octane mixed match of the sea­son, Leapfrog took on Sit­u­a­tions in an enthralling contest.

The first set saw Sit­u­a­tions come out of the blocks strong tak­ing Leapfrog by sur­prise.MVP Franky Hag­ger was pil­ing on the offen­sive pres­sure see­ing Sit­u­a­tions take the first set com­fort­ably, 25–18.

Set two started in a sim­i­lar fash­ion with a shell shocked Leapfrog strug­gling to put some plays together, at 17–10 down Leapfrog sud­denly found their stride and took the fight back to Sit­u­a­tions, pulling the game in their favour. Leapfrog played some fan­tas­tic defen­sive and attack­ing moves to tie the game up at 24–24. A few swift points fol­lowed allow­ing Leapfrog to take the match to a decid­ing third set.

Sit­u­a­tions com­menced the final set strongly but Leapfrog’s impres­sive defen­sive play fromMVP Sam Loveridge turned the tide later on in the set, bring­ing the match up to a tie. Leapfrog seized the oppor­tu­nity to close down the match, main­tain their unde­feated sea­son and guar­an­tee them­selves the title.

Leapfrog Vs RB Coquelin

The fol­low­ing Mon­day night saw another heated game at the busi­ness end of the Mixed 1st Divi­sion. An on form RB Coquelin took on the cur­rent lead­ers Leapfrog in a game that would go down to the wire.

RB Coquelin came out of the gates strong, lean­ing on the back court cover of Carla Mar­tel and the right arm of MVP Stu­art Black to pull an early lead over Leapfrog. With the help of some great dig­ging from Han­nah Riley, Leapfrog pulled it back to make it a ‘point for point bat­tle’ but it slipped through their fin­gers and RB took the first set 25–21.

The sec­ond set started aggres­sively with Leapfrog hav­ing every­thing to prove! Strong hits from super-sub Matt Wake­ford, who showed fan­tas­tic promise in his first game for Leapfrog, aided the league lead­ers back to form and with the assis­tance of some great attack­ing and defen­sive play from MVP Steffi Johns, they guided Leapfrog to a 25–17 win in the sec­ond set.

In the decid­ing set, RB Coquelin got off to a quick start thanks to strong serv­ing by Ian Vaudin and at the mid way point of the set, they had a heavy advan­tage in the race to 15. With some great set­ting from Becky Gau­vain and Cal­lum Hockey, show­ing his abil­ity as a hit­ter, Leapfrog quickly man­aged to turn the game around and thanks to a few lucky serves, man­aged to pull out a 15–11 win to take the game.

Leapfrog Vs Cannon

The evening of Mon­day 14th saw the Mixed leagues come to an end and the cham­pi­ons, Leapfrog, looked to fin­ish the sea­son unde­feated buy secur­ing a win over Cannon.

Leapfrog took to court already crowned league win­ners after some fan­tas­tic and exhil­a­rat­ing games over the course of the season.

The first set saw Leapfrog take con­trol early on with good build up play, killing off the points. Can­non ral­lied part way through the set but strug­gled to claw back the lead. Good attack­ing play and a sub­lime jump serve from Cal­lum Hockey secured the first set for Leapfrog.

The sec­ond set saw a shuf­fle of for­ma­tion for the Leapfrog side who were in con­trol fol­low­ing their win of the first set, but the for­ma­tion change allowed Can­non to keep the game level through good defen­sive play by the whole team. At 22–20 down, MVP Sam Loveridge stepped up to serve for Leapfrog and kept the pres­sure on Can­non, pulling ahead to match point. He pulled of a scin­til­lat­ing jump serve and back court attack­ing combo to clinch the win and end the sea­son with Leapfrog unde­feated and undis­puted champions!
