Leapfrog has a very important announcement to make…

As a company, we are dedicated to showing support to local charitable organisations. For 2013, Leapfrog are very proud to be partnering Teenage Cancer Trust’s Guernsey Appeal and sponsoring their Afternoon Tea event on 16th March 2013.

Teenage Cancer Trust was founded in 1989, with the Guernsey arm formed in 2011, all of whom are devoted to improving the lives of teenagers and young adults with cancer, with their main aim being to make sure patients are treated as young people first, cancer patients second.

Around six young people aged between 13 and 24 are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK. They need expert treatment and support from the moment they hear the word ‘cancer.’ Teenage Cancer Trust is the only charity dedicated to making this happen.

Teenage Cancer Trust Guernsey are hoping to raise as much money as possible in order to materialise their current fundraising plans; which include the building of a new Teenage Cancer Trust unit at Southampton General Hospital in 2013, and the funding of a Teenage Cancer Trust Education and Advocacy manager. The cancer unit will be for young cancer patients living across the southern region, including the Channel Islands, enabling them to be treated with others their own age, in an environment suited to their needs. This unit will provide 10 in-patient beds plus open-plan social and recreation areas, a kitchen and dining area for patients and parents, digital lighting systems, broadband connectivity, and cutting edge computing, gaming, music, and entertainment equipment. Teenage Cancer Trust’s Education and Advocacy manager provides education to young people in the region about cancer awareness, as well as working with those who have been diagnosed to ensure their needs are being met and they can return to school or work when their treatment is over.

With no government funding, this work is only made possible by fundraising and the charity relies on the generous support of individuals, companies, trusts and community groups.
